Just to clarify: 1976 was the only Olympiad in which the host nation didn't win any gold medals. Canada has won a total of 71 gold medals over the years, the first one being at Paris in 1900. Of the last 28 Olympiads, they've won gold medals in all but six (one of the six being Moscow in 1980, when they didn't compete).
Canada did win five silver and six bronze medals in 1976.
